Original Elan

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I am teaching my 15 year old son how to operate the original Elan, but have misplaced the manual. Can anyone help me with the custom functions? There are seven. What do each do and at what setting do they do them? Also, there is a symbol in the lcd box which looks like an alarm. I thought it indicated that the camera would beep when focus is acheived, but there is no beep. Finally, there are three metering modes. Can anyone verify that a) the dot with the semi circles is evaluative; b) the semi circles without a dot is partial; and c)the blank box is centerweighted. Thanks so much.

If you contact Canon (1-800-828-4040 I think!), they will probably send you a manual or a copy of one.

You have the metering modes correct.

The beep symbol is for the timer only. Custom functions:

My manual for the Elan shows that when custom function 6 is ON "the beeper tone will sound when the subject is focused and during self-timer operation".

However, my Elan exhibits the same behavior i.e. the sound icon is in the LCD but sounds ONLY when in self-timer mode.

I'm trying to find out why.

If you get an answer, please let me know. E-mail me and I'll scan and email back the functions.
