Canon A50 and SanDisk 96MB Compactflash

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

In response to my question about compatability, Canon Tech Support responded as follows: Canon recommends using CompactFlash memory cards developed by SanDisk for the PowerShot A5 and A5 Zoom digital cameras in the following sizes: 4MB, 8MB, and 15MB. Note: There are several types of CF cards available. However, Canon warrants the performance of the PowerShot A5 when used with Canon or SanDisk CF cards in the above sizes only.

This seems rediculous. I woul like to use a larger size... specifically the 96MB, but don't want to purchase it and find out there is a problem or it won't work properly. Any info would be appreciated.

I've been using a 48 MB Sandisk CF card with the A50 with no problems so far...

I suppose Canon recommends Sandisk since Sandisk also delivers the CF cards that ship with the camera. They are marked Canon, though...

I have bought a 32MB CF card from a company called Memory Card Technology, and it has worked flawlessly.

I am quite sure that the 96 MB card will work fine also, since the CF standard is quite strict. It's just like another disk drive.

I have no problems with any compactflash cards. I have 15 cards in total from Canon, SanDisk and Lexar.

I got lots of these cards for one reason only!! So I don't have to carry a laptop computer with me and it is more compact than carrying 35mm SLR equipment and films. Forget about having any problems with the dreaded airport X-rays!!

I have two A5 Zooms and like them so much that I couldn't resist the temptation of the A50.

So if you have no laptop computer then get more compactflash cards!! It's more pictures with cards without carrying the extra weight of the computer.
