Growing Sprouts?

I would like to know the easiest and best kinds of seeds to buy for growing sprouts. I read that some tyoes of beans have to be steamed before eating to get rid of the toxins. Anyone?

Check out www.honeyvillegrain.com

They have seeds in bulk and low prices. Dried peas $7 for 25 LBS. Dried garbanzo beans $12.50 for 25 LBS. Etc. I have sprouted many of them and are very delicious! The sprouted peas taste just like fresh raw peas out of the garden! Also Lima beans are great sprouted! $18.50 for 25LBS.

Thanks Freddie. I didn't even think of peas and my husband loves peas. Are these the dried peas I see in bags for pea soup?

We usually use alfalfa for sprouts, especially as a lettuce substitute on sandwiches in the winter if we don't have fresh lettuce. Also like radish and cabbage-family sprouts (kind of spicy). Sunflower seed sprouts are good in salads, and easy to grow the seeds too. We don't even shell them just sprout and rinse and eat- of course lots of the shells do come off after sprouting and rinsing. Mung beans are the traditional chinese "bean sprout". Any of these should be available at a good food co-op.

Fox, I found some good info at waltonfeed.com. They go through types of things to sprout (for cooking or raw), how to do it, how much to purchase & how to store. They reference a book called "Natural Meals in Minutes" by Rita Bingham for their info and say she has other methods & recipes in her book. I'm planning to do this too! Great idea!

We sprout alfalfa, radish, mung bean, lentils, and wheat. Yeah, that wheat in those big buckets...wonderful sprouts...a somewhat sweet taste. The kids love it. The radish seed gives a nice hot wallop to any batch of sprouts...we generally sprout combinations.
