The next generation of Nikon CP 950

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Do anyone know when will the next generation model of Nikon CP 950 be available? (not the professional like D1 series) I've asked Nikon HK and they told the soonest time is in the next year.

Hope the next model can have a larger aperture value, faster shutter time, USB transfer, remote control, stronger doors, external flash connection w/o adaptor attached, and even greater value of optical zoom.

Hopfully it will have a Type 2 compact flash card slot so it can take a microdrive or have a bulit in Clik drive.(to me this is the most important feature). Compact flash is way to expensive compared to rhe new media becomung avaliable.

I am going to stay with solid state electronic storage. A hard drive can crash inside a computer sitting on a desk that hasn't moved in years. Now have you ever taken the hard drive out of your computer and carried it around in your shirt pocket for a week, maybe had it slide off the table onto the floor and then put it back in your computer and expect no data loss. Just because the microdrive is smaller doesn't mean it is more rugged than the larger version in a computer. There is still an arm that swings out over the drive surface, which is a very delicate operation. I take my camera backpacking, bicyling, and horseback riding. I wouldn't do that with my laptop computer on a regular basis and expect it to have no errors when I did a scandisk. Especially if I was using under the conditions I mentioned where it might be getting bounced around after the shot as the RAM buffer transfers its data to the compact flash. If something were to happen to the camera it is replaceable, the pictures aren't. So the device that stores the pictures should be more durable than the camera. So if the price for memories is more expensive compact flash then that is the price I am willing to pay.
