90mm 2.8?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

Which do you think is sharper?... the 90mm 2.8 or the 105mm 2.4. Do I sell the 90 and get the 105? I'm confused as I use 'normal' lenses most and want maximum quality. This is getting quite ridiculous... thanks for any experienced advice

If you look at the posts here and on the medium format digest page you'll find plenty of argument on this topic but little good solid data.

I have the 105 f/2.4 and am pleased with it. The people I've spoken to who have the 90 also like it. If I had the 90 I would keep it, I have the 105 and intend to keep it. In other words, IMHO there is nothing about either lens that would cause me to give it up for the other.

I have the 90mm lens and can assure you that it is very, very sharp. I'm certain from what I've read and heard from other photographers that the 105mm lens is also very, very sharp. As a rule, standard lenses are almost always extremely sharp. Have you used your 90mm and achieved less than satisfactory results? I have to wonder why you are thinking of trading it for another lens of essentially the same focal length. I'm quite sure that technique will have more to do with producing a sharp image than would the possibly miniscule difference in optical quality between the two lenses.
