Better late than never, a conference entitled "Year 2000 Problem in Russia" will be held in Moscow on October 8, 1999, within the framework of the InternetCom '99 show. The conference is being organized by the parliamentary committee on telecommunications, the Russian Ministry of Nuclear Power, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Extreme Situations.

The conference is aimed at providing advisories on the readiness of various systems for the Year 2000, standards and techniques for testing, and evaluation of risks. It will also propose technologies to solve the problem. Finally, it will consider the matters of contingency planning.

The reports planned for the conference include: legislation issues of the Year 2000 problem; state programs for solving Year 2000 problem; international experience in solving the Year 2000 problem; standards and techniques for testing Year 2000 readiness of IT systems; solving the Year 2000 problem in large IT systems; contingency planning. The conference will also include plenary sessions and roundtables, workshops, exhibition of Y2K-related products, as well as press events.

The only press event I see coming from this conference would be what exactly do you want on your toast.

Yup. October 8th, "leaving 81 days for remediation and testing..."

Almost like here in the U.S.
