If you have Powerpoint on your computer, you might find it interesting to read the operating preparedness (contingency) plans set forth by MAPP (Mid Continent Area Power Pool, one of the ten NERC regions) Slide 8 of 8 gives the probable (not possible - probable) scenarios of:

-Light load, high frequency, high voltage

-Loss of communications, transmission, generating load

-Adverse weather/storm conditions

Following that are the "Credible Worst Case Scenarios":

-Storm coincident with transition dates

-Loss of Communications

-Islands
