Interesting Y2K debate tactics - a must-read for GI Christians...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The following appeared in the thread Does GI == militia membership?. Though it serves my purposes - providing more evidence for my claim that doomers cannot support their asserted premises in a logical debate, and must therefore resort to sandbox tactics - I wonder how many of you realise the sort of people you are agreeing with? How does this make you feel, especially those of you who claim allegiance to some Christian faith, that your allies behave thus:

Carlos,

You have yet to comprehend two very important truths:
1. I am Paul Davis's homosexual lover.
2. As such, I have humongous hemmoroids.

Andy Ray

Are you saying that there's another reason why you have humongous hemmoroids? Well, what is it then????

I am convinced he will stay so long as we answer him. I am equally convinced that his questions are not a straightforward reflection of his purpose in asking them.

He appears to be fishing for more than he lets on. If everyone answered his questions literally, the answers would be a monotonous "no" repeated ad infinitum. His questions are only capable of eliciting useful information if we assume he genuinely doesn't understand and we volunteer far more than he asked. Psychologists and police interrogators use similar tactics.

Although I do not feel I have anything to hide or be ashamed of in my response to Y2K, I feel very uncomfortable with hidden motives and I have no idea what construction he will put upon this information. I feel much the same way about opinion polls and refuse to answer them.

If he had been genuinely ignorant and seeking information, my previous answers would have been sufficient to solve that. The fact that he persists speaks volumes about his trustworthiness.

I will no longer be cooperating with Andy Ray's hidden agenda. I recommend the same to others, whatever your opinions. Thanks.

AR,

Thought it an odd response at the time but jumped for the bait nonetheless. Shame on me. Afraid I have to go with Brian. Troll humor can't be trusted pure w/o an IP revealing format. Bummer.

Andy, try warming up with a gerbil first.

Could we meet sometime Andy Ray?

a self serving user at the readers expense. Andy, you've been asked to stop the guinea pig routine. The responses have not been favorable on a consistent basis. I will be quite curious when the time will come you finally understand we don't want to participate in your experiment and don't appreciate your contributions. This is similiar to the wierdos you see on your local news who commit offenses and cannot see living life any other way. These labels you are trying to gather information for are simply labels. They do not represent the complex nature of the human involvement regarding Y2K.
