126 negatives

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

My mom gave me a lot of old negatives. I think they are 126 black and white negatives. They are pretty good size. I would like to scan them and put them on a CD. Is there a product on the market I can buy that will do this? Thank you......Glenda Harding

If the negatives are of pretty good size then odds are you will have to get a good flatbed w/ a transparency adapter unless you have enough money to get a film scanner that supports the larger film types also. I was also given a lot of negatives and prints that are old and I decided to scan them and put them on cd. I looked on the market and decided the best product(money-wise) would be a good flatbed w/ a transparency adapter. I went ahead and got a UMAX Powerlook III and it has done an excellent job on the B&W medium format film, odd-sized glass negatives, B&W prints, and color prints. It does not do a very good job on 35mm film though. Sometime in the future I will probably buy a good 35mm film scanner. As for putting them onto cds I already had a 4/4/16x Yamaha cd-rw drive and it has done fine, but I've seen a Creative Labs 4/2/24x cd- rw for under $150.
