I am planning to buy a camera exclusively for taking pictures of jewelry, which will be displayed on the web. I understand from reading these posts that lighting is very important. However, does anyone currently have suggestions for the best camera under $1000 for getting sharp images of jewelry with minimal knowledge of photography.

I just got a Nikon CoolPix 950 that has GREAT macro capabilities. If you're interested, you can see some jewelry photos I quickly snapped at http://www.clarke.ca/search.cfm?Keywords=+ring . The macro closeup on one of them is slightly out of focus on the diamond, but you can see that the Nikon is certainly up to the task...
