NEW BANK RULE-BANK MAY OPT TO SUBSTITUTE ELECTRONIC FOR HARD COPY STATEMENTS!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Picked up a copy of my bank's REVISED FUNDS AVAILABILITY RULES (Feb 1999) found some interesting reading. For example how ya gonna prove what you have if they elect to DISCONTINUE PRINTED STATEMENTS in favor of informing you of your balance electronically, which is now their option? Also, found that availability of funds could be (unspecified) longer than the stated normal times due to several new reasons, among them computer or communication failure. Funny, if their computers malfunction and destroy records isnt it convenient that their customers may have no hard copies to prove a thing in court.

All the more reason to follow Kissinger's advice...Pull ALL YOUR MONEY out now...

In oh, say March 2000 you can redeposit SOME of it if the MOTHERF***ING bank survives. CROSS OUT AND INITIAL and DATE the "signiture card and EXPRESSLY STATE that paper statements are an unalterable CONDITION that you, AS THE CREDITOR, require of the DEBTOR, i.e. the Bank!!!

Oh yea, insist that the paper they use is non sulphite 100% RAG ARCHIVAL...these weasels will use FLASH nitrate paper to defeat the contract provision!

According to the FDIC, your printed records, deposit receipts, cancelled checks etc. cannot be used in determining your account status. Only the banks electronic records will be used.

Dave, you say "According to the FDIC, your printed records, deposit receipts, cancelled checks etc. cannot be used in determining your account status. Only the banks electronic records will be used." Tell me Dave, where is that written? You are scaring me.

Dear K, What degree of permanence do you suggest for the bank statement paper- Low/Medium or High ? Happy to supply whatever !!!!

The FDIC statement quoted appeared in a article posted by "A" on July 10,1999, under the URL

http://www.logoplex.com/resources/ameagle/congame.pdf

If you don't do pdf, now is a good time to start, because this article is essential reading. Its also 81 pages long, and the statement referred to appears on page 42 or thereabouts.

Sorry about omitting the source.
