On the subject of default settings

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

This is your game(checkmate)...this is your game on non-default settings (checkmate with a 13 or 15 point score)Any questions?...(well, alright, that was a bad attempt at parodying an anti-drug commercial that runs here in the States)

OK,OK,I think we need to re-state one of the most basic rules here at MARP. That is you play at DEFAULT settings. Checkmate, my friends, defaults at 2 rounds...not 5 or 6. It would do you good to check out why the other 12 or so players were tied with 6 points. It was not a coincidence...they all played at DEFAULT 2 ROUND SETTINGS! You do not change settings to be easier just because someone else made an error in doing so. What's next? Settings that include infinite lives? Oh, that would be fun. :p

If you'd like to play at more difficult settings and can still beat the rest of the MARPers, then more power to you and it's totally acceptable here. Just don't get riled up if someone comes along and takes you score over on default MAME settings.

Zwaxy, a little help on adjusting this, pleeeease? (And while you're doing that, I think lagavulin's Lazer Command score needs to be re-adjusted) Thank you, oh mighty and great MARP page maintainer...:p

Everyone, please heed JoustGod's words. If you're going to submit a recording, USE DEFAULT SETTINGS!!!!! If you changed the settings in casual play and you're not sure what the defaults were, then go into the \CFG directory and delete or rename the configuration file for the game. It's that simple.

I'm back after a long lost time playing EQ.

I was about to do another thread when I spotted that JoustGod had mentioned Lagavulin (nice drink) and his lazer command score. I assume he was doing it on time left which isn't a bad idea but we'll have to have a ruling on it 'cos loads of people are sat on a score of 15.

Anyway decided to cash in on some easy points with checkmate, blockade etc.

However I came across this oddity. On Battlelane everyone scores 10 points but if you press 'N' on keyboard you can get an infinite score. I only submitted 10 points though as it will cause havoc if we allow stuff like that - just a warning before someone does it!!
