New Fuji DX-10 or Refurbished Agfa 1280?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Greetings-- I recently purchased a Fuji DX-10, and I am very impressed with the picture quality, especially the red-eye reduction (or elimination is more like it). I just know I would be much happier if it had a zoom lens; but alas, I can not afford to dish out another $150 just to get that feature.

I am considering returning the Fuji in order to buy a refurbished Agfa ePhoto 1280 from an online auction for about $50 more. I know that this particaular camera has received rave reviews, and it has a 3X zoom and higher resolution (but lower CCD res), but it is 2 years old and discontinued.

Does the new Fuji DX-10 have any advantage over the older Agfa 1280, or does the Agfa seem like a better buy at close to the same price? It is difficult to compare the two because the reviews for the Agfa are all over a year old. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

We never got to test the 1280, although I've generally heard good repors on it. I do *really* like zoom lenses, but also found the DX-10 very capable. One thing I really liked on the DX-10 was the range of options for exposure adjustment it gave you. But then, there's the zoom lens. FWIW, I'd probably vote for the camera with the zoom, but that's also just personal preference talking...

Having just bought a DX10 after finding this excellent site I have been putting the camera throughits paces and continue to be surprised at what Fuji have built in for the price. Th quality is better than I expected. Re the zoom why not just enlarge the bit you need, although the camera is not that high in pixels it does seem to be able to enlarge and print better than I expected. Maybe the pixel rating is higher anyone checked.

The Agfa 1280 is superb! In Europe (Belgium) it is still sold in stores , so I doubt it is discontinued (eg Fnac Photo Service)
