Compact flash and card adapters

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I want transpfer images directly from my cf cards out of the cp950 onto a small portable.

Will the pc Card adapters that are available accomplish that? Are pc card adapter the same thing as PCMCIA adapters? Do I need any software to transfer the images? Which ?

Do I need to use nikon's adapter or can I use any makers's adapter? are there any special tecnical specs I need to know to maintain comptability?

You don't need any special software. You'll will find new drive in "My computer" after insertion of the PC card. (Adapter itself won't be detected.Must be with CompactFlash.) It's just like large capacity floppy disk.

As far as I know, there's no compatibility issue among CompactFlash Adapters. (SmartMedia adapters, Yes.) If your PC supports USB, I would recommend you to use USB card reader.
