And exactly who long did it take you to come up with this one?

Doomer to Power Industry Expert: "What's the chances that we will have a total blackout due to Y2K?"

Power Industry Expert to Doomer: "Not very likely"

Doomer: "Is it one in ten, maybe one in a hundred?"

Expert: "A one in a million chance"

Doomer: (excitedly) "So you are saying there IS a chance!!"

Okay! So the "expert" in your little tale is a "power expert". You forgot to mention to whom you are referring to when you portray the "doomer". Is it the government or those large corporations who are being so silly to be stockpiling, preparing, making contingency plans, etc. etc.? P.S. I'm no doomer, just had to comment on this absurd and ridiculous attempt at humour.

I think it's pretty funny. It's amazing, just checking. Doomers say they want the gov and corps to do something. So the reports flow about remediation, contingency plans, and extra supplies to ensure business as usual on 1/1/00. Then the doomers cite these actions as evidence of doom. HMMMMMMM Just another attempt to reinforce their thinking, I suspect.

Yeah maria it's called the Doomer Disconnect. Very amazing phenomenon actually.

When I "grow up," I want to be able to do fancy HTML stuff like Craig!! :-) Hey, Craig, I thought you were going to be mayor by now, what happened?

-- Gayla (privacy@please.com), July 21, 1999.

You ought to put that one in that new forum for Y2K Satire.

Gayla........

I had a good look around and figured I'd hold out for a bigger city!

I'm off to San Francisco on Saturday though so perhaps I'll do the mayor thing down there.........Oh heck, I'll settle for a game of golf.........

Be sure to distance yourself from Willie Brown, the town can't stand him! And stay out of the bath houses there too, you just never know what kind of bug you'll catch!
