IS Function on 75-300

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

With the IS function turned on is it necessary to wait a few seconds after focusing on the subject for the IS to actually lock in or can I fire away immediatly after focus is locked on. (It seems like right after I lock onto my subject I here the IS doing its thing). Not sure if I have to wait......

You have to wait for the IS to take effect. It's fairly obvious from the viewfinder image. It takes a second or so.

Bod's right. From your question I feel you are thinking of using IS for action type subjects. When I try for (Eg.) birds in flight, I turn IS off. I believe the 300mmf4 IS allows a second IS mode which accounts for panning movement and may be a suitable compromise in most cases.
