I am completely new to Digital Cameras. I have just ordered an Hp C30 and an extra 8mb CompactFlash card. However when searching the Web, I keep seeing PC Card (pcmcia) mentioned as an accessory to have for downloading. What is this card and is it necessary. Would welcome any help on this subject. Thank You, rgh115@prodigy.net

The CompactFlash as you stated in one type of storage media used widely with Digital cameras today (It is a good choice too). In order to transfer the Photos to the PC, you need to have a CompactFlash card reader (Parallel or USB type) or the CompactFlash adapter which enables you to use the PCMCIA port of the Notebook PC, or if you have internal PC Card reader on the desktop PC (most people do not have PC card reader). If you are using a Notebook PC, you can get by with just a adapter, however if you are using a desktop PC, if you have USB port then you need the USB type card reader, for the older PCs parallel type will do. The USB interface is much faster. I hope this helped.

Is a USB CompactFlash card reader better, or an internal PCMCIA card reader with CompactFlash adapter? They are both about the same price, so I am trying to decide which one is better for transferring images to my desktop PC. Is one of them faster than the other? Is the PCMCIA card reader more flexible, as to reading other types of media besides CompactFlash?
