Made my first VCD but won't work on my DVD

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Okay, I captured the video on my DVC then used NTI CD Maker 3.17 to create the vcd. My Sony DVD player can play vcd/cdrs. I noticed that my Windows Media Player could not open the dat file, but I was able to play it on my ATI DVD-Rom drive. What might have I done wrong, since neither my Media player nor my DVD Player could recongize the vcd? --Don

I have never heard of people using NTI CD maker for burning VCD's. You problem might be because of that. Most people use videopack or ez cd creator for vcd creation

Yeah, I can't use EZ Cd Deluxe, it always crashes...even with the patch upgrade. I think I discovered what the problem was...is it necessary to include cdi information for vcd playback. NTI 3.17, does not include it and the newest version of NTI 3.6 rejects my mpeg file as not conforming to whitebook standards!!

The problem is the way in which the vcd has been written or the colour of the dye on the cdr you have used to record the vcd.

I use CEquadrants VideoPak 4.0 to write my vcd's , its got built in recording software.

failing that win on cd is the second best. Dont use Adaptecs ezcddeluxe vcd software it only makes vcd's complient with pccdrom.dvdrom drives not the correct 2.0 format for dvd players like the sony. Thanks

Make sure your DVD player is VCD 2.0 compliant. If it is, make sure that your dat files are in the mpegav folder.

Problem solved!!! Well, the culprit turned out to be the media. I was hestiant to use my best cdrs for fear of wasting them...and turned to generics as my testers. Ah well, thanks for the input. ^_^
