OLYMPUS 2000 Focus problem (on faces/sunlight) ?!?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have an Olympus 2000Z and I have big troubles getting my pictures on focus. Almost all of them seem to be slightly(or more) out of focus...This appears especially in outdoor sunlight conditions and when I am focusing on a face. Is there anything that I'm missing an should know? Is it possible to be a defect ? I'm open for any opinion...

We also have recently purchased this camera. Are you using the LCD display or the eye piece to line up your shots ? I find that for basic focusing you should have the camera set to Auto mode and use the eye piece to align your subject. Make sure that th subject is in the middle of the crosshairs while you press the shutter release half way down to lock the focus. When using the LCD display I found that I could not always accurately centre the subject in the focus area. Hope this helps

My C-2000 does an amazing job on both focus and exposure. It seems to "guess correctly" most of the time when there is a mixture of bright and dark areas in the frame. For example, it correctly exposed for the dark inside of a trailer even though there were several windows with bright sunshine coming in. The only out of focus shot I can remember taking is one when I did a focus lock on a darker area and then shifted the camera angle. My fault, not the camera's.

If most of your shots are coming up out of focus, it sounds like you may have a defective unit. I'm on my 3rd Olympus digicam and this is the best one yet.
