ComED 100% Complaint?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread |
Com Ed just reported, under oath, that they are 100% compliant - http://chicagotribune.com/version1/article/0,1575,SAV-9...However, they did suggest that folks in the area prepare as if we were getting a blizzard - you know, one of those blizzards where there is no electricity, fuel or food available for weeks.
What do you think?

Terri:I've lived through three Chicago blizzards (1967, 1979, and January 2, 1999). I did not experience any power outages during these three storms. The two longest outages I did experience were four days in the late 1960s due to a major ice storm, and 12 hours in the late 1980s due to extremely heavy rain (12 inches or so) flooding some underground transformer vaults. So I think the winter storm analogy, if true, does not require extensive survival preparation.

The link above didn't work for me. Try this:CA UTIOUS OPTIMISM RULES Y2K UPDATE
Key points:
We're ready, but residents would be foolish not to prepare
ComEd was 100 percent Y2K compliant as of June 30
Nicor Gas has announced it is Y2K-ready
Ameritech... as of April, his company's mission-critical systems in MOST of its service categories were 100 percent Y2K compliant. However, Ameritech is joining federal officials in recommending that users try to minimize telephone usage on New Year's Day.
[I don't remember hearing that recommendation from fed. officials]
State agencies are about 85 percent compliant
Panic that leads to hoarding and bank runs might be the biggest Y2K threat,
