It seems likely to me that they have received specific intelligence regarding a terrorist threat. It doesn't make sense to use agents as traffic cops if the signals don't work.

A fellow employee has a brother who works for the FBI as well as a father who is a retired agent. She verified that her brother had his late year leave cancelled with the official reason given as possible cyber-terrorism.Any kind of Y2K problems will make it very difficult to determine which problems are Y2K and which are due to cyber hi- jinks.Cyber-terrorism is a scary possibility which should add to the New Years fun we may have next year.

I'll bet they will really be peeved when leave is cancelled indefinitely, followed soon by the job, as well as the paycheck! Expect to soon see a thread where all Christmas leaves are cancelled for all terrorist groups worldwide, and their girlfriends and wives are quite upset!
Seems the FBI was only about 7 months behind the Royal Canadian Mounties. Guess they were just slow to get it!
