My Canon A5power Zoom takes only 37 pictures in best resolutions

My Canon A5power Zoom takes only 37 pictures in the best resolution. On the notice it is written that I should be able to take 44 pictures. I have formatting the card but no way to do better than 37 pictures. Can someone explain me why? Is my card endommaged? Have I done something wrong?

Eric,

Your card will store a set amount of data which may not always correspond to the same number of photos. Each photo, depending on the number of colors it contains and the range of contrast, will take up varying amounts of memory. If you are taking photos of scenes containing many shades of color with a large contrast range, these photos will take more memory than photos of scenes with more subtle variations of color and a more compressed contrast range.

I would guess that 44 photos is the manufacturers optimistic estimate of what your card will hold.
