Use this as motivation to tune, test and run your generator under 1/2 to full load for a couple of hours over this coming weekend. Don't let it just sit there and expect it to be ready when you need it.

It's very clear to me that at the NERC:

1. Nobody is really in charge. 2. There is no real accountability to anybody there by the electric companies in their membership. 3. When the rubber meets the road, the NERC is still just another trade organization; a Rotary Club for the eu's. (No insult intended toward the Rotary Club.) The Y2K bug is a world-wide problem, but the NERC is behaving as though they have some dirty little secret that they alone must hide. How much better it would be if they would do the same thing as every other large corporation, bank, and utility needs to do: Confess that they have a problem, announce that they're not going to fix it in time, and start helping the public to get ready. Unfortunately, they're fooling just enough people to keep us all in danger.
