You work for CNN and you can't afford the fee?

I'm not sure this is what you're looking for, but this is a link to a recent Y2KNewswire article on the electric power industry:

-- Linkmeister (, July 06, 1999.

Not from Y2KNewswire but of possible interest is this from Westergaard 2000:

"NERC's April 9 Y2K Drill: What It Is, And What It Is Not"

-- Linkmeister (, July 06, 1999.

Contingency Planning and Drills from the NERC's Web site:

-- Linkmeister (, July 06, 1999.

Sorry, but I am not so good at linking, so this might not work. The following is the link to the NERC document mentioned in the new Y2K newswire story: "the nerc runaround". To me, this doesn't seem to be some insidious plot by NERC and the utilities, just a simple way to ensure consistend documentation. It also gives the definitions of "Y2K ready", "mission Critical", and "reasonable exceptions". I don't trust Mike Adams, but that is my decision. Anyway, here is the URL and the link, in case I mess up. 20report%20process%20and%20criteria%20-%20final.pdf

This is an Adobe Acrobat file, by the way.

It worked, cool.

happy days...

Last but not least, here's the link to the NERC's PDF document that contains the quote...

Do not make the drill to complex. We want to have a successful and meaningful story for publication. strategies.pdf

-- Linkmeister (, July 06, 1999.

The story is a sensationalist newswire points out the obvious fact that utilities have been lying about their readiness. They have now PROVEN THAT WE ARE BEING LIED TO.....

Stevo, stop trying to prove it to yourself. Your gut instinct for survival is the correct one to follow. Trust your inner voice.

...And here's the proof of NERC "coaching":

OOPS... Try this flavor instead:

Here's the last email I got from NERC. Copied and pasted.

Um, aren't journalists supposed to go directly to the source? Just wondering...

Read all the stuff at their web site and make up your own mind. Don't have a clue how I got on their mailing list.

When an industry-advisory group met for the first time last Thursday, members fretted over how to prevent public overreaction to Y2K. The members at the group include incoming Securities Industry Association Roy Zuckerberg, United Airlines chairman Jerry Greenwald, North American Electric Reliability Council chairman Erle Nye, and Scott Anderson of the American Bankers Association.
