greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi ! Somebody please !!! I need to install Combi Vcd player on my harddrive and the installation note reads: Combi determines the Mpeg decoder to use by locating the *.DAT extension definition in the Windows WIN.INI file. I checked my system and it has 29 .DAT files, which one am I looking at ? Please help me....

You do not need to worry unless the program does not work as expected. Combi will change the win.ini file for you. but just in case.

You are looking for a line like this:

PROGRAM = *.EXT

to break it down:

PROGRAM is the program to use

= just associates the extension

*.ext is the extension of the file

you should see something like:

CombiVCD = *.dat

To get the win.ini file just click Start, Run, then type in SYSEDIT for Windows 9x and Windows NT. Win 3.1 should exit and type CD\Windows then EDIT WIN.INI to get the file.
