Millennium advice for doctors

LOCUM doctors would be better off working in bars than hospitals on Millennium eve, it was claimed yesterday. They could get more money and suffer less stress, said the Locum Doctors' Association.

The association is advising locums to refuse to work in hospitals on Millennium eve unless they are guaranteed more than #75 an hour - triple the normal rate - for a consultant and #50 for a junior. The demand is said to have raised fears that hospitals will face a staff shortage over the Millennium.
