What is going to happen to TB 2000??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Forum Moderators : One Thread

If we are going to have a prep forum (GOOD) then the need to "protect" the original will be greatly reduced.

I would like to see it free form, get rid of the polly - doomer attitude and everyone welcome. Make the forums focus on the **year** 2000 and not just a rollover thing and not just a comp thing. (it is already there but..)

As the Frontline "Crash" suggests the implications of economic disaster is not going to be just from Y2K. As we are going to have a Prep forum the rules will have to be changed anyway. There is little reason to have two forums that are prep oriented.

Personally I am hyped by the Prep forum and will contribute in anyway I can. I am also hyped by having a forum that could discuss the real implications of the following year without having to worry about stepping on toes.

I like the idea of a "think tank", there are alot of fine minds on the forum and we could disect events that are happening now and in the future. No doubt most of the "true believers" have there prep stuff focused and alot of the old posters would enjoy a freeform forum.

This would not be "bowing' to the polly interests. It is just a realinement due to changing circumstances.

Another thing. While having and administrative site (this one) was handy after Ed's untimely demize it is less needed now. If I was an old timer on the forum I would be insulted and choked that there could be such a thing as restricted entry to an "elite" of the forum.

I vote for complete disclosure and or disband this site. Either that or we should open this forum up also. It is hypicritical that we expect government and business to do what we will not.

This is my humble opinioin. With out injury or prejiduce

Hi Brian. I think the "Classic" forum should remain open and freeform. Prep posters should be encouraged to go to the Prep forum, but not forced. The "Classic" forum will still be a magnet for news as well as opinion.

I have a feeling there will be a brief period of "Lookit them, going over to their DoomerPrep site," and a certain amount of derision about it. I say, so what. After a week or two, I think it will be pretty much back to normal, although a bit lighter as people start posting prep items to the new forum.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this line:

>I vote for complete disclosure and or disband this site. Either that or we should open this forum up also. It is hypicritical that we expect government and business to do what we will not.

I think the "Classic" forum should basically be "self-moderating."

I was suggesting the moderators forum. Will this site be needed?

Of course it maybe handy for the prep forum to but if the Classic site is basicly open then this one is (moderators) is going to be redundant. The course will be set.

I just feel wierd posting here when some folks that have more of a stake in the "Classic" forum can't. It is one reason that I have never mentioned that I am involved in this (moderating) as it goes agianst my grain to have a closed site of any kind. It is exactly the thing we are "fighting" agianst inregards to Y2K.

Certianly it was needed when Ed left. The Email thing was a bit to much, and there was a need. IMHO the need is gone.

Oh, I see. Yeah, it makes sense that this private forum may not be needed. Actually, that may be up to Diane. She may want a place where she can talk privately with a few folks without having to use e-mail.

I forget about this place sometimes. It's kind of useful, tho its usefulness may shift after the Prep forum is on-line...

Brain,

It could be it's usefulness will become unecessary, in awhile. But for planning purposes, and for the interum, it's been quite useful.
