Seattle Yourdonite Get together? : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I don't know if any of you near the NW coast are interested in the get together thing. I plan to be in Renton July 10 - 13, and would love to be able to meet with all who are willing. Any suggestions? My e works, if you'd rather not post here.

Sounds good Tricia. Count me in for the 10th. I work Sun....Wed AM....Tim

-- Tim Johnson (, July 02, 1999.

Rock 'n Roll ;^) Be nice to see you, Tricia.

-- Ashton & Leska in Cascadia (, July 02, 1999.

Would love to meet you, I'll join in if I can make it!

-- Michael (, July 03, 1999.

It sounds like it's apt to be a small group. The 10th sounds good to me, and it's been suggested that we meet in the park by the locks, or at the Arboreum by the University, or at Murphy's (a pub near the U) or at a coffee house, the Last Exit, also near the U. Any votes on where and when? I need this settled ASAP, because we leave tomorrow, and net access is problematic. Thanks for your responses :-)

Um, Plan A & Plan B?
A for rain; B for sun?

-- Ashton & Leska in Cascadia (, July 04, 1999.

Looking at a 1990 King County Thomas Guide:

Marymoor Park, Lake Sammamish Pkwy NE, a little NE of Seattle on North end of Lake Sammamish (big).

405 up from Renton, turn R, looks like a couple ways to get there.

Looks like a fairly big Park; there must be covered picnic areas?
We're for it, in that case, even if raining!

We're working near Portland, Oregon now; if we're not on a hospice job next Saturday, July 10th, we'll come on up :^)

How does 2/p sound? That's a lllooooonnggg drive so some of you have to want to go too! We can watch fishies, Canuck geese, beavers, & munch fruitcake where we are ;~}

Tim, Michael, Ashton and Leska, if you can agree where to meet and when, I'll check my email when I reach Renton and meet you there/then. It doesn't sound like anyone else wants to come.

Ashton and Leska, please email Tim on Wednesday - he said he won't have net access again until then.

Sure hope we get to meet :-)

Did anybody read the above post re Marymoor Park? *We* can't organize this, as we aren't close enough to go check out the Park at the mo. We're waiting to see movement/response/enthusiasm on this thread to indicate whether the drive would be worth it :-) Tricia, the Park is close to Renton.

There are quite a few Forum folks in the Seattle area -- wonder why this thread is relatively quiet. Perhaps ppl are picnicked out.

I just called the number (206) 296-2966 for the King County Park System to see about reserving a picnic shelter for Marymoor Park, and a recorded message indicated all shelters there were reserved for all weekend days in July and August. I have to run out in a few minutes, but I'll check later today for shelter availability at some other parks in the area.

-- Don (, July 05, 1999.

I called the Park System number again. If I understand their recorded message, this might be the number for the northern part of King County and there might be another one for the southern part.

Anyway, the other facilities in the relatively-close-to-Seattle area that the North office makes reservations for include Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland, O.O. Denny Park on Lake Washington, and Kenmore Park in Kenmore. The office wasn't open today, but will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow. I'd be happy to call to see if anything's available at any of these parks and report back here tomorrow.

Otherwise, we can meet at one of the restaurants/coffeehouses suggested in previous postings.

Tricia, I'll try sending you a note with my phone number to the e- mail address in your post. If you don't have Web access once you're down here, you can call me to see if anything is finalized.

Hi guys! Sounds like no one wants to make the decision on where and when, so I'll take a shot at it. Weather looks fine, so how bout Maymoore park, starting at 1PM. Someone who knows the park will need to suggest how we find each other. I'll be wearing a red t-shirt with pandas on it. Other ways to recognize me: I'm quite handsome hehe, wear glasses, have a beard, and will probably wear a straw hat. Hope I can find Marymoore.......I have been commisioned to photograph a dog birthday party (yes dog) this evening, but will check in when I get home....Tim

Okay, Marymoor Park it is. For no obvious reason, I think we should meet outside the tennis courts next to the parking lot near the west entrance to the park. I'll be wearing a blue/black/white Hawaiian print shirt, and maybe I'll make myself a tinfoil hat to be even more noticeable.

To get to Marymoor Park:

From I-90 or I-405, take Highway 520 east. You'll pass through Bellevue and much of Redmond.

Take the W. Lake Sammamish Parkway exit.

Turn right onto W. Lake Sammamish Parkway, heading south. You'll see Marymoor Park on your left as you're driving.

Turn left at the light at Marymoor Way. I think this is the first light, but I might be wrong. There are lots of tall thin trees near the entrance; it should be obvious. (My knowledge of horticulture is obvious.)

At the first stop sign, turn left and head into the parking lot. The tennis courts are there to the left of the restrooms.

* Sigh. *

In the first step of those directions to Marymoor Park, CHANGE I-90 TO I-5. I'm asleep at the wheel again.

So you begin from I-5 or I-405 and take Highway 520 east.

We'd really like to go, but, Yea! we're starting a new job tomorrow, so we can buy more prep stuff -- we're almost done, but there are a few items which have recently come to our attention ... ;^) the neverending story

Have fun, you guys!

Ashton and Leska,

Hurray on the new job! Sorry you can't make it this time. Maybe we'll have another one later this year. The wife and I will probably make a run to Bob's Red Mill in Milwaukie in the next month or two, so we'll finally get to see your neck of the woods.

-- Don (, July 09, 1999.

Don, be sure to eMail us a day ahead and maybe we can have lunch together. Our schedule always depends on our patients ;^) We know of a good deli or all-you-can-eat pizza & salad bar. Bob's Red Mill is great!

-- Ashton & Leska in Cascadia (, July 09, 1999.

So, we'll see all who can make it at Marymoor tomorrow at 1pm :-)

I'm so sorry you won't be able to make it, Ashton and Leska :-( There'll be two in my party, my daughter will be with me. Not too sure what I'm going to wear, but I'll be sure to see that tin foil hat, Don :-D

Bye, for now.

-- Tricia the Canuck (, July 09, 1999.

Sorry guys, when I got home after midnight, last night, I had a phone message from my supervisor. It seems they suspended a guy and want me to work overtime, starting at 2PM today. It means $300.00 to me so I'll have to go. Also I'm part of a treatment team I'm loyal to. I'll be at Marymoore in spirit........Tim
