NEED 8/S8mm FILM SCANNER

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am trying to identify a scanner that can be used to digitize 8 or Super8 mm film. I have looked at most of the scanners out there and have only seen 1 or 2 that could be potentially used. Most of the existing scanners are designed to do 35mm film or larger frames, not a continuous film loop. If there is an adapter or scanner specifically designed to do this function I would like to know the company/model.

Thanks

Jim

The continuous-loop aspect is the tricky part. The Minolta Dimage Scan Multi has a holder and masks for 8/Super 8mm film, but it needs a cut strip. The only scanner that comes to mind offhand is the little Olympus ES-10, which has an open throat that would permit the film to stay intact - you could probably use the 35mm holder, just position the film in the middle. The ES-10's resolution is a bit lower than many, at ~1800 dpi, when you'd really like more resolution for the smaller frames...

hello,

i am having the same problem ... the latter scanner mentioned has a low scanning res, but is does have an open film slot, which allows film to move in one side and out the other. perhaps one could setup film rewinds on each side, manually or automatically advancing forward frame by frame. then, the real question is who makes a higher res scanner that has the open film slot??
