'Delete Last Picture' bug in Vivitar 3100

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Some time ago I bought Vivicam 3100 camera. Well, maybe the camera is not perfect, but I for my purpose I consider the quality I got for the price to be fair enough. Recently I discovered some odd behavior of the 'Delete Last Picture' function. After conducting some experiments I got to the following conclusion: UNDER SOME CIRCUMSTANCES USAGE OF 'DELETE LAST PICTURE' FUNCTION MAY LEAD TO: A) DELETING A PICTURE OTHER THAN THE PICTURE TAKEN RECENTLY, B) DELETING MORE THAN ONE PICTURE AT ONE TIME. This odd behavior depends on : - how much memory is used, and - if the flash cards have been swapped or not. I notified Vivitar about this bug but have not heard from them (hopefully, YET...) I am not a photographer (as you can probably tell by the type of the digital camera I own...), I am an engineer, so I tried to understand the problem, and it looks to me that it is caused by the scheme of the flash memory management. (There is no need to fill this message with details; if anyone is interested in results of the tests--feel free to e-mail me a question.) --- I am interested if any of Vivicam 3100 users has encountered this problem, and maybe found a work around. I would appreciate sharing your experience with me. --- Thanks, Darek.
