Dear Diane,

I'm jotting this fast note off to you.....just a little unsolicited advice, but trust me....I'm a SYSOP on 2 forums and have been for over 2 years.

Remove the posts by this jerk (My Declaration of Undying Love for Die Ann Squire, corrine 1) off the forum. I know you've been advised by SYSOP2 to leave it, but that in my experience is a big mistake.

#1, its totally off topic and is nothing but a taunt, and adds nothing to the forum of value,

#2, if you leave it, the jerk will take it as an indication that he/ she has won and will only put more of this crap on the board.

#3, you would not let the post remain if it was aimed at another member.

Your friend,

Cary Mc from Tx

The "dare"...

dear die you are such a naughty girl. you couldn't wait to come forth with you're "aw shucks guess I'll be a moderator" schtick so you would have the opportunity to become the keeper of the gate. well keep on keepin on. but please when reaching for the delete key take a moment and post your reasons. otherwise, given enough time by the end of the year you're gonna end up as the sound of one hand clapping.

i adore you, you strong willed cowgirl

Patricks response:

Now, you all know that deleting this post is just gonna get them all riled up.

I say better to just let it die. Eventually, corrine will get bored, if people don't feed "her." And calls for deletion counts as feeding.

Skip it folks, and eventually it will drop off...

My "shortly thereafter addition:

 Dont feed the trolls--please

Chuck's response's:

Rather than letting facts get in the way of a good slander......

UNfortunately, Diane did NOT ask for the baton, it was handed to her by EY. She asked for some help in formulating restructured goals, and approaches, NONE and I emphasise NONE (I tell you three times...NONE) of which have been put forth, at this time.

In due time, the changes will be made and will be made plain.

Chuck a member of the Moderator's Team.

Much as I'd love it to be, it doesn't look like JBD.

Thanks, BTW for the defense Chuck, and now what to say to the forum?

-- Anonymous, July 01, 1999

1) see e-mail 2) NOTHING 3)Roll out prep forum ASAP (Monday is soon enough, I guess) 4) let us deal with the prep forum, where the delete key, and perhaps a series of keystrokes to repost/move a thread/post to TB2K Classic will get a LOT of work. 5) DON'T HESITATE to take out the GARBAGGE! 60 If you must, simply indicate that you took oout the garbage, and washed your hands afterwards.

In an "e" Chuck communicates...

(Adding this so the other Mod's can participate)

The two threads have devolved into something WAY past the bounds of good taste and have finally crossed the line into something I would rather not have my (non-existent) teenager (but existent niece) read.

Cary is right on this one. Narrow focus laser and it disappears. WITHOUT EXPLANATION ( I would hope),

C

Anyone who has read the threads has seen the salaciousness anyway and will not have a problem understanding. a PARTICULAR note to:

-- Dennis (djolson@pressenter.com), July 01, 1999.

might be in order, though.

-- Anonymous, July 01, 1999

I think this is requires a careful balancing act. On the one hand, Cary makes a good point. It is OT, and if you let "her" get away with it, she may persist. On the other hand, I think that stuff like this is designed to get you riled up and see how you'll react. If you react by removing and/or getting into a huff, THAT is really what they want.

People like this are "psychic vampires." They get their energy by sucking away the energy of others. By sucking away the energy YOU give to them. If you allow them to do that, that's what "feeds" them.

Chuck is right, those threads HAVE devolved past the bounderies of good taste. How about this -- rather than remove them, why not put an eloquent message AT THE TOP, before what corrine wrote, saying something like

"Friends, these messages are fine examples of what can happen to an open forum. Please note how this discussion has devolved past the point of good taste. Rather than remove this, we have decided to to point this out as an example of the sad way that people are willing to treat each other. This does not bode well for the possibilities of what may happen if there were a real crisis. Please beware, there is foul language below..."

or something along those lines.

Just my humble opinion...

Patrick?,

I vote DELETE... Cary & Chuck's right... if it was someone else, we'd trash it in a heartbeat.

Diane

-- Anonymous, July 01, 1999

Humm. Why don't you do that on both threads Patrick?

If you use the E-mail address: y2ktimebomb2000@yahoo.com

The message will automatically go to the top.

We can always delete later in the day... if "she" pushes it.

Diane

-- Anonymous, July 01, 1999

You WOULD trash it in a heartbeat, and rightfully so. However, unfortunately my friend, it's aimed at you. You've become a "special case." If you do trash it, I will absolutely back up your decision. However, as I indicated, I think you can use this as an example, and get more mileage out of it.

This stuff is only going to get worse by using surgeon's tools. You can't heal psychic scars by cutting. They want to suck you in and drain you. Don't let them. The more of your energy they suck away, the more energized they'll get, and the more they suck.

Maybe now is not the time to start practicing this, that's OK. But, in the long run, I think you need to take a different approach, Diane. I think you need to basically forget the fact that you have your finger on the delete key. It's really a big problem. It makes you treat things differently, and it makes the trolls want to test you. You are SO capable of responding to things intelligently and disarming people with your charm and grace. Having your finger, and your mind, close to the delete key has changed your attitude. It turns you into a brute, at least in the minds of the other brutes.

It's getting really grungy now. This stuff is the electronic version of graffiti -- I've never heard the Bill of Rights invoked to stop folks from cleaning up the subway cars, bridge piers and factory walls.

I'd say kill every post from Corinne. They offer no redeeming social value, as the saying goes. And every one that follows. Surely the software allows you to block specific addresses.

-- Anonymous, July 01, 1999

Patrick, I don't share your view that "charm and grace" will disarm the likes of Corinne. Might as well reason with a mugger. Or fight fog with a shovel.

Rick Cowles' forum on electric power tolerates no such dreck as Corinne. And seems to function quite well.

-- Anonymous, July 01, 1999

Unfortunately Tom,

The software doesn't... to my knowledge... allow blocking of ISP's.

Big pain!

Patrick's gonna "try" this... okay... we'll give it a go and see what happens.

Diane

Patrick...

Do you honestly "think" I'm a brute with the delete key?

Took out the HTML al-d trashed threads Sunday, at the request of the regulars, and a few of his yesterday, and a few of "corrinnes" that just went above and beyond.

There is still one of JBD's that needs the snip...

Koskinen Speaks "Five to Seven Days."

http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id= 0011C5

don't want to split hairs but shouldn't it be "worthless cock- suckee.

No, Diane, you're not a brute -- (not till you delete something of mine....)

BTW in his latest post al-d forgot to misspell, and typed properly. (These people can too learn....)

It's a blatant violation of ISP's TOS. Complain to ISP with appropriate URLs, they'll close the account immediately upon seeing evidence. If troll gets new ISP, do it again; keep doing it. Eventually, troll will run out of ISPs to use. Do same to all trolls who blatantly violate forum guidelines.
