Does anyone know of an alternative to antibiotics (if they are not available) for an absessed tooth? Is there some kind of poultice (sp?) you could apply to draw out the infection? Having paid my dentist a zillion for dental work I am hoping to be able to get some antibiotics before Y2K but he is a real stickler about handing out prescriptions. Any info on this would be appreciated.

I would have lots of pain killer on hand. I get mad knowing how these types of drugs are available and the ones you need are hard to get.

LG, I have a suggestion..... Go to a Vet. If you cant get antibotics from your dentist, go to a vet. You will have to come up with a dog, about 50# or so. If you need a sure fire story.....

--first make sure the dog you take is a girl---- Tell your vet that you are getting ready to breed her. Tell him her heat season is soon (within a week or two) and the kennel you are dealing with (stud) told you that they would only breed if we put our girl on antibotics for 10 days befor the mating. It is to clear up any lo-grade uterian infections. Tell him that the breeder sudgest Amoxicillan 500mg 2x daily. (again this is for a 50#dog, dont take in a poodle and ask for 500mg)

This is true, I am a breeder and will not breed for anyone who has not put thier female on antibotics first.

As for tooth decay.... I say get the antibotics, nothing I have experenced hurts like a bad tooth, (and I have had 3 kids).

My best advice is GET ALL DENTAL WORK DONE NOW!!!!

Herbal antibiotics include tea tree oil (topical), olive leaf extract capsules (swallow, but watch for constipation), and propolis (topical)--also grapefruit seed extract(drink diluted), but use it carefully as it burns tissue. Dilute!!!
