Philips 830 DVD/VCD-Player won't play VCDs on NTSC

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I see only black and white fuzzy movements when I play video-cds through a SONY (NTSC) television as if there is no veritical control. But the vcd's play fine on my PC. I bought this machine in Singapore. No problems playing DVDs. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

DVD players from major manufactures like Philips or Sony do not switch between NTSC and PAL unless modified. The VCD Only Players made by them do. If you bought it in Singapore and did not get it modified, well you have to get PAL only films. NOTE: PHILIPS NEW DVD825 WITH FLASH UPGRADE DOES HAVE NTSC/PAL AUTO SWITCH...A FIRST FOR US CUSTOMERS.

Addendum to Lone Ranger's response... the Phillips 825 does offer NTSC or PAl output, however, it does NOT convert PAL or NTSC content to the other. Meaning: The player generated screens can be changed between PAL and NTSC, but the unit does not convert PAL VCD's to NTSC output, hence the rolling black and white picture you get.

I own a Phillips 825 and it is not accepting my converted VCD's. It's giving me a disk error. I have flashed the firmware up to 9.28 and still nothing...

I am using TMPGEnc to convert. I have tried both NTSC and Pal.... Nothing.... Zero... No lines, nothin...

Where did you get the firmware from. I am looking for a possible firmware for the DVD860
