TTL Flash with EOS Elan IIE and T-Mount or other MF Lens?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

If I put a T-Mount lens or other manual focus macro lens (such as an FD) with the appropriate adapters, will EOS cameras maintain either E-TTL or plain TTL flash capability? Assume that I would use either manual exposure or aperture priority with the shutter speed locked at the sync speed? Will evaluative and or partial metering still function normally?

As an aside, I realize that I will lose infinity focus capability with such a combination. Since I would focus manually (wide-open)anyway and stop down the lens to check DOF, am I losing anything besides infinity focus? Thanks, Larry

You won't lose infinity focus with T-mount lenses or with M42 (pentax screw) mount lenses and the appropriate adaptors on an EOS body. You will lose infinity focus with FD adaptors which contain no optics. Tamron lenses (with the hard to find and no longer made EOS adaptall mount) will retain infinity focus too.

Metering will remain normal, both evaluative and partial.

TTL flash will work. E-TTL should work OK as long as you don't change the aperture after the E-TTL pre-flash when using FEL.
