Paging Yourdonites - Progress of Chat Sessions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

A quick update on the chat sessions and an invitation to Yourdonites:

About 60 of us so far are participating in various chat sessions on a wide range of subjects -- from community action to firearms to helping newbies prepare and more. This week:

Tonight: Strategies for Responding to Market Turmoil in 1999

Thursday: Growing Your Victory Garden

Upcoming sessions will focus on ham radio, medical emergencies, etc. as well as continue with subjects of interest (a chat session for folks new to firearms is coming up *real soon*).

Please email me if you haven't heard about this and would like to participate.

Unlike with the forum, I'm inviting folks into my virtual "home". Therefore, the decisions of the judges (me) are final on every issue. I think participants can tell you that I have exercised a light hand. Thanks to the sincerity of my guests, we have had useful, polite and "real" discussions so far, though we're still working out various kinks in the process, of course.

If you're sincere about preparing for Y2K, you're very welcome!

Thanks for the update BigDog!

I was thrilled when the chat software was finally operational on my machine. Now if I can just "make it" to a chat.

Got my IMac modem replaced. Now, like Diane, if I can just get there. Thanks, Big Dog, for your continuing efforts.

Big Dog

I'm interested in the chat sessions, and would like to join.

I'm a rather shy girl, with a gaggle of sprig & spriglette offspring to watch out for through this process. I'm preparing diligently, quietly, carefully, and with all the attendant ridicule from those very close to me who know what I'm up to.

I live in Los Angeles with my DSL line.

If there is any other information that would persuade the "jury" (you) to allow me to join, or any other "discretions" that are in order, just let me know. Perhaps it's helpful to know that my "discretionary" fund is limited to a drawer of promotional aol disks, a few invalid subway tokens jostling around at the bottom of my purse, and a zip-lock baggie of smell-good lotion sample packets that fall out of direct mailers from time to time.

Ah, but apparently you have a wonderful sense of humor, IPQ.

If only those promotional CD's were metallic! I have a couple of dozen of these things, and wouldn't they make a great wind chime?

So? How do we participate?? Is there a special URL?? A secret handshake??

In order to participate, you start by sending an email to BigDog at the address in his post.

Tom, maybe the disks won't "chime" but they would make an interesting mobile. Hang over your computer desk or baby's crib.
