Working for a newspaper, I would say one of the biggest advantages to use of a digital camera is the ability to capture images and immediately download them into the appropriate software for use in publication. That gets around the time lag involved with turning in the film to a processor, waiting to have it processed, selecting prints, having the prints made, and FINALLY having useable images. There is also a big environmental advantage, as you don't need to use developer, fixer, etc. -- all toxic chemicals that must be properly disposed of. Also, if you are posting anything to the Web, you need a digital image anyway, so it's easiest to capture one from the outset, rather than having to use a scanner to enter a print. However, as a person who relies on print quality, I also see the shortcomings of digital photography, in that digital images, even with high-resolution cameras, tend to look pixilated if blown up larger than certain sizes. You just don't quite get the sharpness that a print camera delivers. But it's a worthwhile trade-off if time is of the essence, and especially if you're posting to the Web, sending images by e-mail or using other electronic media.
