The Next D/FW Meeting!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Treacle : One Thread

The first D/FW Journaller/Diarist/Escribitionist gathering was loads of fun and we couldn't even leave that night without starting to think of the next meeting. All suggestions are welcome so let's start planning!

I suggest someplace Fort Worthish, so I can stay to the bitter end. :)

On an unrelated note, I think Tricia and I promised the URL for Jennifer's Diary, so here it is: http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/Gazebo/6709/

Is it real? You decide. We say no.

-- Andy (agrieser@aol.com), June 28, 1999.

Yeah - somewhere in Ft. Worth would be nice - as much as I love Dallas, the drive is a pain in the butt.

So, who is this Jennifer chick? I must have missed that part of the conversation...

-- Melissa (mxpxgrrl@alloymail.com), June 29, 1999.

You may have missed that conversation. I'll fill you in over e-mail.

-- Andy (agrieser@aol.com), June 29, 1999.

So... you Fort Worth types are going to have to jump in and start suggesting places.

*hint*

Melissa, I think that's our cue. I'm thinking someplace with a little less wattage speaker-wise. And downtownish, like the Grape Escape or Pour House (though that tends to get loud and crowded). There's Razoo's and Gator's off of 183, or better yet the Humperdink's next to Six Flags. I'm just shootin' in the dark here.

-- Andy (agrieser@aol.com), July 06, 1999.

Don't ask me....I don't know of any 'cool' places in Ft Worth, besides the Aardvark and the Wreck Room. And I've lived in Ft Worth since 1990. Pretty sad, huh? I always end up going to Dallas or Denton to hang out because that's where everyone I know lives. There's some place in Bedford that they talk about on the radio alot...I can't remember the name of it (Gators, maybe? Or is that in Arlington?), but I know several radio stations have weekend type things with cheap beer and such there.

-- Melissa (mxpxgrrl@alloymail.com), July 06, 1999.

Gator's is what you're thinking of. (Ugh. Bad grammer me have.) Sounds fine to me, although the aforementioned radio show (it's the Edge, BTW) gets the place fairly loud.

-- Andy (agrieser@aol.com), July 06, 1999.

I'm allergic to anything that is louder than the voices in my head. Bedford seems so much closer than Arlington or Downtown Ft. Worth, and more wide open (read: parking spaces) so if you guys can find a place that will accomodate my delicate state, I will consider making an appearance.

love, Trish

-- Tricia (trish@intellivations.com), July 07, 1999.

I haven't been to Abuelo in a while, but I don't remember it being very loud inside, and it's in Bedford. (If it is loud, we can always head outside.)

Do we have a date on this thing?

-- Andy (agrieser@aol.com), July 07, 1999.

We don't have a date set yet, but I know I'll be out of town 16 - 23 July. As far as location, well ... um ... just as little driving as possible. Traveling is fine for me but you know, for some reason I just don't feel like spending a lot of time in the car these days. *wry grin* I'll admit to not being very familiar with the out-of- Dallas area (so what if I've lived here 7 years?!?) but once a quiet, nice place is picked and I can get directions, I think it'll be fun.

Tricia had a great idea: a mid-week meeting. We avoid the Friday bar crowds, *and* that means we could do it in someplace like Irving, which is closer for Erin. Unfortunately, the only barrish place I know out here is Cool River, but it might work.

Also, I'll be in sunny Wisconsin for a family reunion July 22-28. Yep, I'm leaving on my birthday. 27, thanks for asking. What'd y'all get me? :)

-- Andy (agrieser@aol.com), July 09, 1999.

Ick - Cool River? We used to go there all of the time after work when I worked for GTE. It's a meat market/flirting grounds for yuppies, it's always crowded and loud, their food/drinks/etc are really expensive, and there's never anywhere to park (we used to walk from work). How 'bout somewhere else?

-- Melissa (mxpxgrrl@alloymail.com), July 09, 1999.

Mmmmm...meat market... Oh, sorry. Anyway, I don't hang out here often, so I don't know any other bar-type places around Las Colinas. There are scads of chain restaurants, like Bennigan's and such. Would that be better?

-- Andy (agrieser@aol.com), July 09, 1999.

I've been out of town, so this is sort of late, but I'd just like to jump in and say I really like the meeting in Bedford somewhere off of 183 idea, just because I know where that is.

okay, so when I post an answer, everyone suddenly gets quiet and abandons the idea?! I don't have to come next time!

hmph...enough to give a girl an unhealthy complex...

-- Melody (melodyp@onramp.net), July 31, 1999.

Oh, and that train wreck journal we discussed at the London Tavern? After the most recent entry, I'm CERTAIN it has to be fake.

Melody

-- Melody (melodyp@onramp.net), July 31, 1999.

Yes, Melody. Take it personally. Everyone knew you would be coming back to town so they all *went* out of town, and now they're all back and getting back into their grinds. All except me. I didn't go anywhere except on a little mental trip. I'm back now, myself, come to think of it.

So, does anyone check this message board to see if we are actually going to try and get together again? If so, where? When? and most importantly.... Why?

-- Tricia (trish@intellivations.com), August 01, 1999.

Yeah, what Tricia said, are we getting together?

(Looking forward to it, hoping it happens soon)

-- Never (never@never.to), August 01, 1999.

I hope it's soon -- I've taken a job in NYC, and have to be there in a couple of weeks.

-- Andy (agrieser@aol.com), August 02, 1999.

Right! Let's do it. I'll try re-joining diary-l (if I can remember how and stand it long enough) and I'll also post to [journals] to rattle anyone out of their mouse holes. I actually have a (rental) car so I can go anywhere. (fine print: within the state of Texas.) I wonder how many pissed-off people I'd meet if I took names from the Texas area of the Diary Registry ...

Andy, I canNOT believe you're leaving. (More to you later.) Actually, I can, and that's part of why we should get together and have fun soon. This board has sat dormant for a while so it moved to the "Inactive" list while I was busy hanging curtains and finishing shelves. I didn't get a few of the message notifications, so if you know someone would be interested could you mail them?

Right. Dates? Times? Anyone want to meet me for lunch out by the InfoMart in the next two days?

-- Erin (emvenema@yahoo.com), August 02, 1999.

Well, it'll have to be either on a Friday or a Sunday - I just got a job, so I work every day but the two I just listed. Plus, I'm in the middle of moving to Denton, so somewhere close to there would be cool too - we have lots of bars and such. Or we can do it during the day after the end of next week. Summer school ends next Thursday, so I won't have anything to do during the day until the fall semester starts.

Just let me know what you guys decide.

-- Melissa (mxpxgrrl@alloymail.com), August 05, 1999.

For anyone still checking the boards --

I've set up a Onelist e-mail group for discussion of the next D/FW meeting. I think that will be easier to follow -- people can either e-mail, get digest versions of the e-mails, or read it all on the web. If you're interested, you can subscribe to the list at http://www.one list.com/subscribe.cgi/dfwjournals" or by sending a blank e-mail to dfwjournals-subscribe@ onelist.com. The list is up and running, so let's talk!
