Southern Company prepared for year 2000 [Southern Company is the parent firm of Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Gulf Power, Mississippi Power and Savannah Electric ]

Tuesday, June 22, 1999 Southern Company, the nation's No. 1 producer of electricity and an industry leader in addressing year 2000 challenges, announced today that it is prepared to make the transition into the new millennium. The company's systems that are critical to keeping the lights on for its customers in North America are year 2000 ready. "Based on these tests and additional testing of critical systems, we believe service interruptions related to year 2000 challenges are unlikely," said Mike McClure, head of Southern Company's Millennium Project, which is addressing the year 2000 computer challenge across the company. "If they occur, we believe service interruptions will be isolated and short in duration, similar to a storm." **************

I will try to post the good news on Y2K readiness declarations as I find them (would appreciate some help as some of you have already done).

Regards,
