is the new Canoscan FB320U better than the 320P?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I need a little flatbed scanner to use with my laptop.....I read reviews on the Canoscan FB320P that were mixed, it was rated as very slow...so now the new Canoscan FB 320U just came out and I'd like to know if it is faster and better than the older 320P model??

The CanoScan FB320U is a GREAT little scanner. It is faster than the parallel version, and easier to set up. It is NOT slow. My last scanner was a 36 bit 600x1200 Microtec SCSI, and the CanoScan is faster. The FB320U is also a 36bit scanner versus the parallel version is 30bit. It has a good TWAIN driver. It is well built, has a solid feel, and is TINY. It's also "cute". It produces great scans. I love mine and I recommend it to anyone.

I am not familiar with the FB32U scanner, but I just bought a Canon FB620U scanner and it work very well. It is easy to install with the USB connection, and setup is as easy as installing the software via the CD. My scanner was bought via the internet and cost me alittle over $100. It is nice and small and takes up very little desk space. It would be wise to check these two units out to see which one is the latest model. For myself, I will never bother again to use anything but USB. Good luck.

Linda: Before proceding, do you run Windows 95B, or Windows 98?
This is a USB Scanner and you'll need a USB port to use it. I suggest you check out your USB port prior to buying it - as there have been a lot of USB related problems associated with scanners. USB is new - and many older chipsets simply don't work properly. As for the scanner itself - I have no experience with it - but I'm a fan of Canon products.
