Minox MX: single speed ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Minox Photography : One Thread

Has anybody used the Minox MX ? According to the specifications, it has a single speed of 1/125 s. How can you get good results with a single speed ? I am considering the MX because of its low price; do you think it is a good choice?

From the specification, MX is a decent camera, with focusing lens. Yes it has a fixed speed of 1/125.

But in tourist situation, you use mostly a single speed. 1/125 is the speed I often use for my Minox IIIS.

With a ND filter, you have additional control over exposure

For indoors, you can attach a flash unit.

It is a great travel camera.

P.S. My pictures at Greece with Minox C were taken with only one speed. Because the camera shutter malfunctioned, but luckly I could still use the mechanical shutter; at that time, no matter what "shutter speed" I chose, the shutter operated only at one speed, about 1/125 sec. In effect I was using a Minox C as a MX.

Minox MX?

Would you still wrestle with varied lighting conditions using a single aperture and shutter speed, if the camera didn't say Minox on the nameplate?

Mr. Doyle It's not the nameplate that impresses minox users, it's the high quality in a tiny package. I have one with me constantly and it's so small I sometimes forget it's in my pocket.

Minox MX has a single speed of 1/125 sec; but a $2000 P950 has only two shutter speed 1/125 and 1/60.

The MX with an attached grey filter, provides two level of light intensity control, for example use the grey filter while sunny, and use MX without grey filter for cloudy day.

It is interesting to note that P950 uses ACMEL designed lens, while Minox MX is a reincarnation of ACMEL MD camera.

Minox MX has focusing lens, while P950 is fixed focused, but uses Waterhouse diaphram to control the depth of field.
