I'm getting ready to say Good-bye.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

To the forum regulars (and you know who you are), I'm preparing to say good-bye (maybe temporary, maybe permanent) to this forum.

I've been with you since about November of last year. I thank all of you who have taught me something about self-sufficiency, which is not stupid in any age, Y2k or not. People who have lived and traveled overseas understand this.

I hope I have contributed something of value to this forum, but those who have read my posts will the judge of that.

FYI: My email address is real.

Thanks again. It's been an interesting trip.

:)

Good luck FM. If you are successful in weaning yourself from TB, let me know how you did it and we will market a 10 step plan for the other regulars. :)

Or rather, COMMENTS on a thread posted by someone else. . .

(It wasn't mine)

I agree with a, if you are able to stop visiting here please tell us how you did it.

Best wishes and good luck.

FM,

Don't say Good Bye! Say "see you soon!" Gosh, I hope to find your way back here before the fall. I bet you can't stay away that long! Me too. (grin)

What, Carpal-Tunnel not good enough for you? After all we've done for you! A little shooting pain never hurt anyone! Just a flesh wound!

You want a life outside the forum do you? Forum regulars not good enough for you? Begone with you then!

Oh BTW, thanks for all your efforts!

Best Wishes to you & yours prior to, during, & after roll-over!

Hi FM, I just happened to be checking in today. I've limited my time to the forum to a few days a month now. We're getting SO much done that are "extras" in prep - to make things very comfortable for mom when we "fetch her up here". I've enjoyed your contributions - and yes, you've made a difference here, as most everyone would agree. You are appreciated.

Good luck and see you sporadically, I hope ;-)

Mr. K

Not goodbye, FM...just so long for now, okay? I've always enjoyed the civility, rationality and on point tone of your messages. Just got done reading your 'take' on another thread about how and why news reporting has changed, from your insider's perspective. Awesome post...I'd like to see it as required discussion in college journalism classes.

-- RUOK (RUOK@yesiam.com), June 22, 1999.

FM,

Your contributions to tby2k have been significant to say the least. If you must take a sabatical, I would request that it might be a "short one".

Wait FM!

You're leaving before you've been nominated for doomer of the month!

Best wishes...

-- GA Russell (ga.russell@usa.et), June 22, 1999.

Like the others said, FM.

Yours were/are one of the posts I always read - you've added alot in your own unique way. So hopefully you can be like those who've changed to "occasional comments" rather than none. I've actually cut down stopping here to 2 or 3 times a week.

I'm sure we'd all be interested to hear your thoughts especially say September/October.

Say hello to John Galt for me.....

Take care FM.. You will be missed....

Keep the faith

We sure will miss you FM! Especially when we need up-to-the-second "live" coverage of an imporant Y2K event (or just a reliable and speedily delivered transcript later). What you did for us with that "60 Minutes" clip was awesome!!

Best of luck! Do come back and visit now and then!

F.M

Please stop in once in a while. You have helped quite a bit.

-- Mike Lang (webflier@erols.com), June 22, 1999.

I suspect we'll all be leaving. I hope it's later rather than sooner, and, if possible, sometime next year. Not counting on that, though...

SYOTOS, FM

Enjoyed you stuff

"I'll be back"

Don't miss the "end game" FM. It is sure to be one of the best "ends" that man has ever seen. Please join the ranks of Mr. K et al, well you know what I mean...

FM,

I've always enjoyed your insight and perspective. I'm really going to miss everything you've contributed and I hope you managed to check in every now and then. Best of luck and though the trip is interesting please make sure you're safe too.

How can you leave after a send-off like that?

Re-consider?

(Aren't we _awful_!)

-- jor-el (jor-el@krypton.uni), June 23, 1999.

FM, you'll be back! There's no patch for this you know, no Timebomboderm! I'm now up to my armpits in new vinyl flooring (took a break from the shelving) and I STILL need to pop in and get a fix now and then. It's become an automatic reaction to click on the "Contribute an answer" bar when a post sparks a thought or two but I've most regretfully had to forego the pleasure and get on with just keeping up with posts. But you see? I couldn't pass it up on your post! I know when I get all my books back from storage, unpacked and shelved, there'll be lots more posts to make.

Stay safe.

-- Floored Old Git (anon@spamproblems.com), June 23, 1999.

Thanks so much for the best wishes and compliments folks. (Old Git isn't the only one who's "floored.")

And Dino, sorry if I ever embarrassed you. Please forgive. (Seems to me I thought you were a troll picking a fight. Apparently I was misinformed. Peace.)

I'll check in from time to time, maybe posting one more thread before I'm "gone."

If something really big breaks, send me an email, huh?

Many blessings on your households!

:)

come back and visit us occasionally, it'll only take a few minutes

-- dick of the dale (rdale@coynet.com), June 23, 1999.

Short of time...loss for words...take care, visit us when you can.

How do you express a Y2K goodbye?

-- Mike (midwestmike_@hotmail.com), June 23, 1999.

FM,

Your departure will diminish us, both in intellectual capacity and in thoughtful compassion.

As you leave us my wish is that you find, ". . . fair winds and following seas. . ."

FM- Respects! Congrats!

When the munchins and the flying monkeys get too much for you out there.... Just bow your head and repeat " there's no place like home, there's no place like home"

Hey knock that off TOTO..

O.K. guys, I really AM going, but I thought the following subject was too important to ignore as I bow out:

I know we'll be hearing much more of the "panic could be as big a problem as Y2k" message over the months ahead, so I'd like to leave you with two items to think about.

First, I know John Koskinen has taken a lot of heat on this and other forums. That's to be expected. As we all know, "for every opinion there is an equal and opposite criticism." I am making no defense here nor launching an offense. I just want to make you aware of this Koskinen quote.

Recently, directly from his mouth to my little ears (others heard this too, and you know who you are) came these remarks, transcribed word for word:

. . .Even when people think theyre done, theres a tremendous amount of emergency planning going on, and preparedness going on, and therefore everybody oughta do that.

Were going to try to get that part of the message out with greater visibility, (this Summer) because to some extent, from what people have heard about it, its old news that we think the power grids going to be O.K., its newer news that we think everybody still needs a preparedness plan.

Weve been concerned about underreaction being as big of a problem as overreaction. The goal is to have a lot of prepared communities.

Now, there's also been rumors about major Y2k disaster movies coming out this Fall, and plenty of discussions about what THAT might do with respect to causing a "panic."

So, . .I did a bit of research today, to try to get a better idea of what we might expect in the months ahead with regard to "Hollywood takes on Y2k."

At this point, I'm relieved. Unless there is something absolutely top secret going on, it looks like there are no major Y2k "worst fears" movies in the works. According to a major Canadian newspaper, the purported Y2k movie with Chris O'Donnell is dead because of delays. (Well, MAYBE it was production delays. . .who knows?)

However, watch out for this one:

Welcome to the Century

Genre: Drama/Action.

Studio: Universal Pictures. Production Company: Imagine Entertainment.

Project Phase: Greenlighted.

Who's In It: Morgan Freeman (Chief Sebastien White); Harvey Keitel (Franco Galorini). Who's Making It: Glenn Gordon Caron (Director); David Self (Screenwriter); Brian Grazer (Producer); Morgan Freeman, Ron Howard (Executive Producers).

Premise: During the early hours of January 1st 2000, a mafia capo and a grumpy police station chief partner together to protect their neighborhood when rioters and looters threaten to destroy the hood.

Release Date: December 3, 1999.

Shooting is allegedly to take place in NYC this summer.

Well,. . .that's it for now. Thank you again for all your good wishes. Blessings again.

:)
