Making vcd from .dat and or .mpg file

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi,

How do I burn vcds from an existing .dat file or .mpg file ? I've heard that WinOnCD 3.6 and EZ CD Creator Deluxe 3.5 can do this but I can't figure it out.

When I use EZCD Creator, it put the .dat file in the item something dir and not the mpegsav dir so my vcd player doesn't recognize the cd.

When I use WinOnCD 3.6, it puts the .dat file in the root dir.

I know I'm doing something wrong, what is it ?

Does it matter if I specify a .dat file or a .mpg file. I've heard that the mpg file has to be of the "right" format before this can work. What format is that ? Also, I've heard that I need dat2mpeg to convert my .dat files to .mpg file before I can burn.

Any help or insight greatly appreciated. Thanks, P.

Before you burn with EZCD creator, but after getting your layout finished, go to the VideoCD menu and select properties. Then go to the CD-I application tab and make sure the checkbox is checked.

I guess I only answered half your question. Yes, it needs to be a VCD complient MPeg-1 file. Yes, you will need to convert the dat to mpeg before you can burn it.

I have the same problem. Ez creator puts my files in the segment folder. I use the Xing Mpeg convertor for VCD 2.0 whitebook standard so the problem must not be caused by my non-compliant files, but Ez Creator itself . I think the majority of the people don't run VCDs on stand alone players so they don't encounter this problem.

Here's a link that states the EZ creater for VCD burns to the wrong folder.
