"ON / LCD" w/ autopower off better than switching to off?

Have a PhotoPC 750Z and was curious if it's better to just leave the camera in either the ON or VIEW position with the auto-poweroff function rather than switching to off to conserve battery power? Any other battery-saving tips would be appreciated.

I also have an Epson 750Z. I think from a battery savings point of view either letting the camera shut off or turning it off is about the same. The main difference is, by leaving the camera on the zoom stays at the same focal length. If you shut the camera off you can put the lens cap back on but you will be at wide angle when you turn the camera back on. I think thoose are more of a factor than the batteries. I took over 100 shots in one day all with LCD viewfinder and some with flash. I filled all of a 32meg flash and half of the 8meg flash. I was using the LCD heavily too. About 20 pictures were of of fireworks and I kept pressing the shutter release halfway down to keep the camera from powering down so the LCD was on all the time. This was done with one set of NiMH batteries and their still going. I know it sounds like an Energizer Battery commercial. :-)
