Of course, manifest idiots and liars like brock, omit that the Russians have already admitted that they do not have the money and  have no idea where they will get it from. They stated that they are hoping to find it by September, which will be meaningless.

They are NOT replacing anything. They are PLANNING to replace them IF they can find the money.

They are NOT **spending** a dime. They are HOPING they will spend it.

But brock portrays their hopes as if they were reality, thus dissuading even more people from making preparations for their families.

Still think brock is NOT a liar? Here is the proof, originally posted by Robert folsom,  that  brock is doing everything he can to lie his ass off. The following article was posted here weeks ago. Brock read it. he responded to it. And yet, he continues to post drivel, like the above KNOWING that it is NOT true.....

Russia's Electricity Monopoly Needs 15,000 New Computers

MOSCOW (AP)--Russia's electricity monopoly needs to replace a third of its 50,000 computers because of the Year 2000 computer glitch, a top official said Monday.

"United Energy Systems (UES) needs $15 million to buy 15,000 to 17,000 new computers and software to fix the remaining machines, said Alexander Remezov, deputy chairman of the board, according to the ITAR-Tass news agency. UES oversees Russia's vast electricity grids."

"Remezov did not say where the company would get the money, but said he hoped to have it all by September and replace all the machinery by October."

brock is a damnable liar and deceiver. Self-deceived first and secondly intent upon deceiving others.

The true story is that he KNOWS full well that they do not have the money to do the job, and that even if they did, it is too late.

He is intentionally lying. There can be NO other purpose for him to post that they ARE fixing their systems when he KNOWS that they are NOT, other than to dissuade you from making preparations.

Answers

So let's see. Say they get the money in September like they are hoping, and by some wild stretch of the imagination, lets say they are able to purchase and acquire the 17,000 computers by 1 Oct. That will give them a whole 90 days, not working days, actual calendar days, to install them. Then, we do the math (for those not fluent in advanced mathematics, please skip the next line):

17,000 computers/90 days=189 computers/day

Based on their rapid progress thus far, I'm not sure they can even get them out of the box that fast.

Yes, it certainly seems safe to assume that until Russia announces that they've already done it, they'll never be able to do it. However, in the unlikely chance that they purchase these new PCs, the schedule 'a' describes is simply silly. Russia can probably come up with more than 189 people to do this work. This is work that can be done concurrently. There are presumably at least 15,000 people using these 15,000 computers (and probably MANY more, considering Russia's chronic equipment shortage).

The good news is, replacing PC hardware solves almost nothing. PC hardware and BIOS are perfectly fine with extremely rare exceptions, requiring only that the date be reset after rollover. The bad news is, all of the critical y2k errors are in the application software, and replacing the PC hardware does *nothing* to address these problems. Whatever those problems may be, they'll still be there whether the PCs are replaced or not.

Flint has just told us (oh so eloquently) that Russia is humped beyond recognition. Of course that's exactly what a said as did Milne. He just hates them so much, he can't stand to agree when he agrees with them. Understand?

I'm still waiting for Milne to post a DejaNews link where I posted to that thread. Does a lie count as "spin"?

You guys are a riot. aaa@, can you think for yourself and refuse to or are you just incapable?

Bob Brock said on the Accidental Armageddon thread:

I presonally believe that the chances of a nuclear exchange are as great now as they were immediately after the Cuban missle crisis. NATO has violated it's charter, Korea is testing the waters, a number of countries (Serbia, Iraq, etc.) feel justified in engaging in terrorism and no one is sure what they may have purchased from the Russian nuclear arsenal. India and Pakastian are firing artillery at each other and both have the bomb. China is very concerned about what impact NATO's new role could play in some of their territory disputes and I don't believe that Korea does anything without China's assent.

and

Has Yeltsen regained control of the military? After all, he said that he didn't seen those troops into Kosovo. Have India and Pakastain reached a truce? Have the N. Koreans and S. Koreans quit sinking each others ships without a current US naval presence in the area? How does nuclear war differ significantly from the Milne/Infomagic billions dead scenerio?

Now Bob, you're supposed to be a pollyanna, and you're scaring the shit out of me. This is getting really strange.

aaa@, I also said that I wasn't going to post in this forum, but you sucked me in once again. The Pollyanna term is something that Milne pinned on me. I've posted my predictions to this forum once, and the DB's are moving in my direction. I draw the line when someone say's that you have to quit your job, move to the sticks, and take up farming to survive. I see potential for economic problems. I see potential for infrastructure problems. I've never told anyone not to prepare and I won't.

You are a victim of Milne's "spin" as evidenced by his continued failure to support his allegation that I posted to the thread started by Mr. Folsom. Also, if you go back and look at my post that Milne is referencing, you will see that the only text in the post that I wrote was "For the complet article:" and "Begin quoted text." Everyting else was cut and paste from the news article.

Hey, if you like Milne's spin, go for it. I just have to set the record straight every now and then when, in a moment of weakness, I can't help myself.

Bob. You were always on the side where you didn't have think very much.

AS I remember, It always gave you a headache.

This isn't Rook playing.

OK, I went back through the family bible...No W.L.'s. You must have me confused with someone else.

-- Bob Brock (bbrock@i-america.net), June 20, 1999.

Brock, you appear to be as confused as Flint. What part of THE WORLD WON'T FIX Y2K AND THE WORLD IS TOAST don't you understand? Does the phrase TOO LATE mean anything to you? You can play with stats all you want, THE WORLD WON'T FIX Y2K AND THE WORLD IS TOAST. Its really simple. Just think on it. (And maybe start looking at a nice cabin in the sticks....)

-- King of Spain (madrid@aol.com), June 20, 1999.

KOS:

You can shout that 2+2=5 until you're hoarse. You can ask what part of it Brock doesn't understand. You can attack anyone who disagrees. You can chant 2+2=5 like a mantra and feel good. You can consider it obvious and self-evident. Whatever makes you happy.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), June 20, 1999.

KOS, nice try, but you didn't address the issues of Milne's spin in his post. Let's stick to the "spin" topic shall we? Would you like to show where I posted in Folsom's thread like he says I did or what my words were in the article that I posted? Or do you just want to change the subject to avoid the issue?

I already live in the "sticks", but not because of Y2k. I moved here in 1981 because I like it here.

-- Bob Brock (bbrock@i-america.net), June 20, 1999.

Can't we all put this behinds us.

Less than 100 working days to go.

Get yer asses in gear, time has all but run out.
