Diane, Forget politics and Y2K. That is not reality, only a shadow play of no consequence. It is too late for the government to do anything. If we have an election next year, God alone knows who the candidates will be--or what parites.

I just attended two day seminar this week and govt did reccomend 2 weeks of preparation. Ohio Emergency Management Agency Y2K Coordinator, Dean Irvin, speaking at Lutheran Disaster Response Seminar stated OEMA projects Y2K impacts to be a 3-5 day of interuption affecting thousands of people and it would not be imprudent to stock up on non preishable goods so to last 10-14 days. He said rural areas and the inner city could be more severely impacted than small cities and suburban areas. OEMA Chief of Emergency Preparedness for Ohio stated that hardest hit would be maritime shipping, small and medium enterprises, health care and pharmaceuticals. He suggested that we go back to our local congregations and seek out the vulnerable and prepare to address unmet needs.

In looking over Bruce Webster's classifications I would say they are projecting a 3-4 impact. They al;so said their projection assumes that there will be no runs on food, fuel or cash and should a run develop they would adjust accordingly. OEMA Y2K coordiantor enlisted our help in informing people of appropriate action in order to avert over reaction and panic.

I missed the show at church today when our Y2K preparation meeting was announced. Wife says the place erupted into the above refrain. I guess I got a reprieve, I'm running the show next week and it sounds like it's going to degrade into an "Is too! Is not!" event.

For crying out loud...how can it ever be wrong to be prepared? What posible harm could six months of canned food...that you'll eat anyway..do to your budget? Doesn't it make sense to be prepared for SOME SORT of disruption? OK, so Y2K doesn't put me out of a job (two jobs, actually, telecommunications and the Army Reserve)...I'll have food, shelter, a bass-pond-a'bornin', and a vegatable garden. I cannot help but think of a friend-of-a-friend..her ref. contents were an old carton of rice form a Chinese restaurant, and a bottle of water. No, you don't NEED a genny, but doesn't it make sense to have candles? Remember the toilet paper shortage caused by a Johnny Carson joke? Is too/is not! Or yes it will/No it won't is NOT the real issue...to my simple military mind, my family wil be prepatred for reasonable eventualities (the comet hitting off the L.I. shore is a different matter, but we do have the cabin upstate). Be prepared, and thnak a veteran. Don't waste what their sacrifice gave all of us. Happy Father's Day, Dad! Stop kidding yourselves. It is beyond too late for any kind of government action. Personal preparation is the only preparation -- and the time will come when it will get to be too late for that!

There are just six months left until 2000. Of those six months, how many weeks are there until enough people figure out what is happening (you know, little hints like sewage spills start making impressions), and supply lines will close for good? (I am using "supply line" loosely: I mean the ability to buy affordable rural land, as an example.)

Y2K CANNOT BE FIXED!
