About the Electric Utilities and Y2K Forum

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : Policy

This forum was created for discussing the Year 2000 computer problem in the electric utility industry ONLY. To keep the clutter at a minimum, I ask the discussion remain focused on this topic.

Q: So, what are we discussing here?

A: Only discussions relevant to the topic of Electric Utilities and Year 2000 will be maintained in this forum. All others will be deleted.

Q: Are there 'rules of the road' that need to be observed?

A: Play nice. Flaming other posters for their opinions is generally not considered good form, however, informed debate of opposing views is certainly encouraged. That's why the forum exists. I also ask, in deference to our wide audience who has varying degrees of tolerance for profanity, that you keep the discussion reasonably "clean".

Q: So, Rick, what's your view on some of the radical stuff posted here?

A: This forum in no way reflects my personal views of Y2K, the electric industry in general, or anything else relating to the general human condition. I won't be held liable for the accuracy or idiocy of anything posted here. Use, abuse, and interpret the information presented at your own risk. Caveat Emptor.

Q: I have a boat I want to get rid of before Y2k. The Evinrude's been giving me some trouble anyway. Can I hold a virtual garage sale here?

A: Advertising of any type is verbotten. If you have something to sell that would help folks get through Y2k, I recommend you consider posting it on a relevant USENET newsgroup (such as comp.software.year-2000, misc.industry.utilities.electric, or misc.survivalism). Best regards to all, and may Y2K be a non-event.

About the Millennium Salons Forum

Welcome to the Millennium Salons forum.

The basics of this software work like this:

To read a question or comment, simply click on whichever topic on the list interests you.

To answer a question or respond to a comment, click on the link at the bottom of the window the question or comment is in that says, "Contribute an answer to...(question or comment title)." That will bring up a screen in which you can enter and submit your answer.

Messages can also be typed in email programs or word processors and copied and pasted into the text box used for submitting questions and answers.

To "Ask a Question" click on those words in the upper left of the main window (above the list). A screen will come up that will allow you to enter a new question or topic. The "subject" of that question or topic will appear on the main list after you've submitted it."

Also... Be sure to select a category for your thread from the pulldown menu in the text entry area. If you don't see a category that seems to fit, leave it set to "Don't know," post it, and find the thread that says "What would make good categories for this forum?" (under the "Forum Mechanics" category), and suggest a new one.

CAUTION: Please doublecheck your email address when entering a new question or topic. Responses to initial, "top level postings" you make will be forwarded to you via email. Your address will also be inserted at the end of any messages you leave so that people can communicate with you "offline" if that seems more appropriate.

To receive automatic updates of new postings , click on the link below that says, "request to be notified," or click the link at the bottom of the forum's main screen that says, "add an alert." This is a powerful feature of this forum software you'll want to take advantage.

The Post Composition forum: A special practice and "workspace" forum/salon has been set up for hands-on practice with this software, or for doing "pre-posting" work. Click here {hotlink} when you're done reading this page to find out more about that.

And, if you wind up feeling you'd like more help with the general mechanics of navigating and participating in this forum, coming back here to the "About" page, and clicking the link below will take you to a set of online instructions that will show you the basics quickly...

Enjoy yourself, be nice, and remember: The main topic here is what (and how) to do about this mess.

And, oh yes... The disclaimer.
