Sony FD-91

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have been following this board for sometime and have learned most of the posters and the dislikes of them. As with all message forums you have the regulars that like to belittle the ones that don't choose what they own and the ones that try to justify what they own that doesn't have the features the others have (benoit ). That being said, I have chosen the Sony FD-91 as the one to have for all the features that blow the other ones out of the water except for resolution which I'm not concerned with since I don't print many Pics or plan on winning awards with the absolute best clarity available. Floppy's? They are FREE. Send in the coupon after the purchase. No Memory cards to buy for $100 bucks or more. Unless you are a Professional Photographer or someone that relies on the ultimate clarity printed, the difference will not be noticed. For the adverage person, this is the best D.C. out there. Kevin

Kevin, I also have a Sony FD-91 and I love it. I even purchased the Sony Cybershot DSC-D700 with 224MB PCMCIA ATA Flash PC card, but in most cases I still use the FD-91 because of it's 14X zoom and ease of sharing the photos with everybody else who owns a PC. I am also happy with it's XGA resolution. I use the photos in electronicly and also hard copy prints at different sizes (including the large 8x10), and it does just fine. I have been recommending this DigiCam for a while, and I can not accept the harsh comments made by some certain individual attacking Sony in a very unorthodox manner.

I concur Fred, I also found an interesting site that showed pictures with the Auto stabilization turned off and the graininess was all but nonexistent. I agree with your last statement. Inoit --- because there's one born every minute. Kevin

END REVIEW :)

I really like my 91. Yes - I do wish it did higher resolution, and I wish they had used Zip or the Sony high capacity disks - but I still like it. It is very easy to use - and the features are tremendous. I do believe the opinions I've seen here from some individuals are a necessary part of a quality forum though folks. It's not always pleasing to hear negative things about equipment you've invested in - but as a resource to help people decide what they need and want, well it's great to have a forum with diversity of opinion - even if those opinions sometimes come on a little strong. A prudent person can wade through this and make a more informed decision.

Guys -

I agree. I looked at all the cameras and read all the reviews. I picked the FD-91 because of its well rounded capabilities, not just because it writes to floppy disk. By the time you crop the 3x zoom megapixel cameras' images, their resulting image resolution is lower than the FD-91's. The FD-91's "real" TTL LCD viewfinder & 14x optical zoom allow you to take well framed, properly exposed pictures every time. Because minimal cropping is required, you retain most of the image pixels.
