timeframe...best guess

howde all... new poster here, but i've been lurking for months. I'm pretty well prepared for 6 months of hell on earth, but i have one very important choice to make as far as a home base/shelter to use. It is between my home in NW Mo. (70,ooo), or cabin retreat in lake of the ozarks area. My home is on outskirts of the city and my job is in emergency services (i'm sure i'll be needed here). My cabin would be much better for a PERMANENT STATE OF ANARCHY, because of the fishing and hunting opportunities, as well as the remoteness considerations. I'm afraid that if one does not make the decision to bug out early, the safety of traveling 200 miles would be a big question. Need help here people, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? thanks, Steve.

Prepare both. Make plans. Plan A, then Plan B, then Plan C, etc.

Without getting involved in the moral questions involved, if TSHTF, head for the Ozarks. You can always return home if the situation warrants it.

I agree with those who say prepare for both. 200 miles isn't that far and you (we) will likely be able to see whats coming before that much travel is dangerous. Personally, I'd go to the cabin and come back IF conditions warrant -- not the other way around.

People who work in emergency services in general do so because of a strong desire to help others. Why view your choice as either/or? Check out the opportunity for service in AK. I'm sure there will be folks there who would appreciate your level of skill, dedication and training. Your opportunity for service in AK may still be a commute from your cabin but may be a safer trip.

Do you have a backpack with enough supplies in case you have to walk to that retreat?

Expect to find your home RANSACKED when you get back to it in 2000.

Smell the air everyday, you gut will tell you when to go to the cabin and when or if to return.

Woodpile,

Lake of the Ozarks is in Missouri, not Arkansas. And the state abbreviation for Arkansas is AR, not AK (AK is Alaska).
