Received from Electric Company

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Received a flyer from my electric company telling us to be "prepared for summer storms". They recommend radio, flashlights, batteries, fill tub and several large bottles or pots with water. Also, unplug appliances and cover freezer and refrigerator to keep food cold.

I live in Western PA where we "normally" don't have any preparations for "summer storms" because they are extremely rare.

Is this early Y2K advice?

Marcy

I was listening to a radio station and they were having a speaker on y2k. Didn't recongize his name. He said that 20% of nuke plants in some place were already off line ( seemed like a high number to me) Anyway, that is why they are already having difficulties with the heat and the grid etc. Maybe this is true or partially true and the utility company is aware of coming difficulties.

20% of Nuclear generating capacity is normally offline at any given time. Always has been.

flint i've been lerking on this form for some time and i've checked things out don't let them fool you unless you are the electric co.

dord:

If by "them" you mean Rick Cowles and Dick Mills, I'll do my best to be careful.

no body in there right mind wants this to go down the way we think it is going to go. I challang any one that doesn't think it will to get on the phone tomorrow and call there electric co. and see if they will gurentee that they will have electric because of y2k in writing. i do not spell very good that is why i haven't said to much before but i'm not stupid. they will say a tree might go down we know that but normally we can expect electricty. not the whole town where there is no place to go. we can't even get a motel room.

flint if i was out of line i'm sorry but we are being sold down the river Rick is on line and he knows what he is talking about but 20% to someone that is not aware is sounding as if it's ok.So many people are so oblivise to every thing that a comment like that makes them think every thing is ok

-- dord (vo@ice.com), June 16, 1999.

Which Electric Co.?

i'm an optomist kind of person .I always think positive about things i can control but i can't control this. I just found out about this and i can't figure out why more people haven't been alerted to it before in our last days of this.

Don't worry about your spelling dord. Sounds to me, like your mind is working very well! By the way, You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure this out. But, you do need higher education if you want to talk this thing to death and nit-pik every meaningless aspect of it! Don't ever be afraid to speak what's on your mind around here, there are several of us who aren't afraid of big-brains, ya know?

Hey Dord,

Do you listen to Quinn on WRRK 96.9?

I know Flame Away does.

We should all get together some time and discuss preps etc.

Hey, Burghers! Let's make it a party! Follow the example of the Virginia guys elsewhere on this board. I have email addresses of 10- 12 Allegheny/Beaver y2k-aware folks, not counting those on this forum. Would be happy to send them all an invite with a time and place.

Address below is correct. Contact me and we'll arrange something.

Hey, we got the same letter here in Colorado. "Stock nonperishable foods, such as ready to eat canned meats, fruits and vegetables, and a three day supply of water stored in plastic jugs. Emergency preparedness experts recommend a gallon a day for each person, In addition, have adequate first-aid supplies, tools and special items, such as prescription drugs, close at hand" Hmmmmmmm They even reminded us to have an electrician hook up a transfer switch if we're gonna use a generator. Are you feeling warm & fuzzy yet?
