DATE AND LOCATION

The second Northern Virginia Y2K Get Together is officially scheduled for Saturday, June 19th, 1999 in Washington, Virginia from 4 pm until 8pm. This date and location was decided upon in order that people can attend the 6 hour seminar by Carla Emery (author of the Encyclopedia of Country Living) at the nearby Rappahannock County Public Library. It is a long day with lots of time for us to get to know each other and exchange personal insight into the problems and the fixes of Y2K. Come at whatever time you can. If you come before 4:00 pm EST, we'll probably be at the Rappahannock Library. By 4:00 pm, we should be over at the Rappahannock park down the road. I will be emailing directions privately and posting them publicly. I will also get you phone numbers for Walt and the Library... or provide you with mine. For the latter, you need to email me at info@giglobal.com. Feel free to bring your spouse, significant other, family, and/or friends. It'll be great fun.

ACTIVITIES AND THINGS TO DO

If things work out, Carla may just join us for the get together. Sally Strackbein of www.y2kkitchen.com may demonstrate some of the best of y2k grill cooking. Besides cooking and eating (some Y2K dishes are in the works and other good things), we'll have a show and tell. We'll be cranking up Baygen flashlights and shortwave radios, lighting aladdin oil lamps, petromax lanterns, and colemans too, winding up my trusty morale-lifter of a TEOTWAKI music maker (an old wind up Thorens music box that plays little metal discs without electricity), and much more.

ABOUT WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA

Also nearby to this location is the Inn at Little Washington (one of the most expensive and best restaurants in the whole country), Luray Caverns (within 20 miles), and the great Shenandoah National Park (famous for fall foilage). Washington, Virginia, an historic little town nestled in the scenic countryside, is about an hour Wast of Washington, D.C. Along the way, you'll find a variety of family fruit and vegetable stands as well as some that do the canning for you.

LODGING AND OTHER THINGS

While the bed and breakfasts may be booked up in Washington, Virginia, there are campgrounds and motels within 20 minutes. If this date and location work for most of us, I will get phone numbers of motels and campgrounds for those who may be from out of state (Chuck and Critt?). I will provide written and graphic maps by email to anyone who needs them. Besides the 5 star Inn at Little Washington, there are a couple of cafes that are affordable in Washington, Virginia.

SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY

Beyond the hoped for dish or two by Sally, some of the friendly locals (Virginians) will be gracious and provide dinner (or dinner makings) and beverages for all. I am planning on bringing a canned corn casserole and some other nice things that are planned for my own Y2K menu. Of course, I will be bringing some cigars along, but not sure what they will be. The Habanas are gone. Perhaps, new Romeo and Juliets.

Sincerely, Stan Faryna

Chuck and Mrs. Driver,

We are all sad that you won't be able to visit this time, but that just makes another reason for a third get together at some point. We'll come up and drag you out of bed-- if that's what it takes. (laughing) Might even take a picture of the nomex pjs and post it to the board while we're at it.

Sincerely, Stan Faryna
